Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to the Saudi League, the world has witnessed several high-profile players follow in his footsteps and move away from European football. While the likes of Neymar and Karim Benzema joined opposing teams from that of the Al Nassr star, a new name has recently cropped up and that too as his potential teammate. If reports are to believed, Ronaldo’s former Man Utd teammate Raphael Varane might join the ranks of Al Nassr as soon as next year.

Another reunion between Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo

Raphael Varane has become the latest European star to get linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League. As per reports from Saudi’s NewsNow4Sports, Ronaldo’s Al Nassr is close to signing the Manchester United defender. The Frenchman might arrive in the winter transfer window. Otherwise, terms will be agreed upon between the two parties, which may see him join even next summer. Notably, Varane’s United contract runs down on June 30, 2025, and is valued at around $38 million. Certainly, Al Nassr would need to break their bank for his arrival.

Al Nassr initially considered registering out-of-favour David Ospina in the place of Seko Fofana, but Luis Castro refuted the idea, preferring Fofana to stay. While no replacement is planned for Ospina, the focus is on a foreign defender to pair with Aymeric Laporte if the team’s foreign player limit increases to nine. Perhaps Varane is the name that Castro is looking to sign. As the conversation about Varane’s transfer gains traction, another former teammate of CR7 is being touted to join his Saudi team!

The ex-Arsenal goalkeeper has fallen out of favor with coach Luis Castro, with Nawaf Alaqidi taking his spot after an injury. Notably, Al Nassr has received offers from Mexico and Brazil for Ospina, whose contract is expiring next summer. Certainly, his sale will not only help Al Nassr secure a fee for him but will also create room in the squad for another foreign signing.
