Certain acts will always remain unacceptable despite the circumstances. And racism is one of them. For quite a few years, the soccer universe has made a conscious effort to fight racism. A Manchester United icon recently opened up about the justice he got, and what everyone dearly needs. He explained to the fanbase a certain incident that occurred in 2021, during which the soccer veteran was a victim of racial abuse. Finally, justice has been served.

Similarly, many players like Vinicius Jr have taken more time out to bring such incidents of racism to light. With issues faced by players themselves with the fans and the crowd, Rio Ferdinand has called out for a more collective approach.

Thanks to many players and officials, racism is brought to light and dealt with severely. One such person was Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand, who took to social media to narrate his story. Wolverhampton court found the accused guilty more than two years after the incident took place. Ferdinand quoted, “Racism will only be eradicated when we all work together as a society!”

But what exactly happened? Going back in time, Ferdinand, who initially did not notice the person making gestures and shouting slurs, then suddenly observed the aggression which led to further investigations. The event happened in May 2021 when Manchester United played Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux. They later identified the person on camera as a 33-year-old home fan.

Apart from CCTV cameras, many witnesses from the crowd and the Wolves’ management came to support the process. The club already banned the accused indefinitely from attending matches for his behavior. Ferdinand was finally relieved that they held the guilty accountable. He announced, “Today the guy who racially abused me has been found GUILTY & will now have to face consequences for his actions”. Without a doubt, issues such as these should never be a lone battle.
