Qatar built mobile homes to accommodate the visiting fans for the FIFA World Cup last year. Over 10,000 mobile homes were built in the desert around Doha last year to house soccer fans. As per the Qatar officials, the plan was to always donate those cabins for the needy. Qatar is proving its word right now by deciding to donate those cabins and caravans to the earthquake-affected Turkey and Syria. 

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey early morning of February 6. They have reported 35000 deaths so far. The numbers might increase as there are many people under the rubble, and rescue operations are going on.

Earthquakes destroyed thousands of buildings and houses in both countries, leaving millions of people homeless. The shelter camps are full, and people were facing difficulties. To help aid homeless people in Turkey and Syria, Qatar has come forward and has already sent the first batch of mobile homes to the affected nations. 

Qatar pledges 10,000 mobile homes to Turkey and Syria

The gulf nation has shown a noble gesture toward helping the earthquake-affected people who were left homeless in Turkey and Syria. Qatar official said, “In view of urgent needs in Turkey and Syria, we have taken the decision to ship our cabins and caravans to the region, providing much needed and immediate support to the people of Turkey and Syria.”

Earlier, Qatar’s Fund for Development tweeted the news of sending 10,000 mobile homes to Turkey and Syria. They also sent the first batch of 350 mobile homes on Sunday to Turkey. However, apart from sending the mobile homes, the gulf nation has also helped raise tents to accommodate the homeless.

They have so far sent over 500 shelter tents, four mobile clinics, paramedics, meals, food packets, medical supplies, medicines, and others.

Qatar was expecting around 1.5 million fans to visit the country for the FIFA World Cup that started on November 20 last year. The hosts created the Free Zone Fan Villages with mobile homes around the capital city of Doha for housing the visiting soccer fans.

Organizers provided the temporary homes with basketball courts, outdoor gyms, and a giant television screen for visitors to relax and play. They charged the fans around 200 USD per night for the stay in the mobile homes, and many found it affordable compared to hotels. However, there were concerns among the fans over the facilities provided, but everything went well as the tournament progressed.
