On Sunday, French media reported that Kylian Mbappe has agreed to join Real Madrid after his PSG contract expires in June. If the deal ever materializes, PSG could cut down their spending, considering the mammoth paycheck Mbappe has been drawing. However, Ligue 1 won’t have any such luxuries. Instead, it would incur a massive loss, as the Frenchman’s exit would hurt the league’s brand image and reputation.
The 2018 World Champion gave PSG a decent financial respite by waiving off close to $100 million worth of bonuses. Nevertheless, his potential departure could hurt one of Ligue 1’s staggering upcoming deals.

Ligue de Football Professionnel which operates the Ligue 1 is reportedly in negotiations for a 5-season television broadcast deal. The LFP expects to strike a deal valued at more than $1000 million. However, as per AS, Kylian Mbappe’s imminent switch to Real Madrid could reduce the offer price by more than $107 million. This means a drastic 20% drop in profits in the broadcasting rights of the Ligue 1. Notably, the French league rakes in more than $148 million in broadcast rights, solely because Kylian Mbappe plays in France!
All parties negotiating for the broadcast rights have refused to pay more than $1000 million, without the LFP guaranteeing Kylian Mbappe’s presence for the upcoming seasons. Anyhow, beIN Sports, chaired by PSG President Nasser Al Khelaifi, has reportedly entered the race to land the broadcasting rights. Meanwhile, amid the Frenchman’s silence on his future, a PSG ambassador hinted that his switch to Madrid is a done deal.

Kylian Mbappe ‘still has goals to achieve’, cited his club’s ambassador, affirming the Madrid switch!
“This soap opera looks like something we’ve seen before. Now, for the first time, from the coherent and serious sources I have, I’m told it’s closed. There’s a good chance it’s done. I’d be happy if he left. I understand his position not to say anything. Put yourself in his shoes. He still has goals to achieve. I think he loves his club. He has respect,” said PSG ambassador Laure Boulleau. Even so, ambiguity persists around Kylian Mbappe’s future.
