Ed Sheeran is the newest A-lister to venture into English soccer club ownership. And it is a dream venture for the British singer. He acquired a 1.4% stake in his boyhood club Ipswich Town. Having sponsored their kits since 2021, Sheeran immediately started to talk about Premier League business. He confidently claimed that the recently promoted Ipswich would beat Liverpool in their Premier League opener. Well, let’s just say the 4x Grammy winner might wondering if he should have predicted a win against the Reds.

Led by new coach, Arne Slot, Liverpool defeated Ipswich Town 2-0. Ed Sheeran’s side challenged Liverpool in the first half. Liverpool only found the net in the 60th minute, via Diogo Jota. Then, star striker Mohamed Salah joined to spoil the Shape of You singer’s expectations. However, while Sheeran showed quite the confidence against Liverpool, he has already pinched himself with a reality check about Ipswich facing Pep Guardiola‘s Manchester City.

Ed Sheeran thinks Manchester City would humble Ipswich while claiming to beat Liverpool

Ed Sheeran charismatically engaged with Ipswich Town’s squad and staff last day after acquiring a minority stake. The Briton donned his childhood club’s jersey and celebrated the team’s return to the Premier League after 22 years. Then he predicted how the Premier League would open for Ipswich. “Ipswich vs Liverpool, I think we’re going to win that,” said Sheeran. Thereafter, he spoke realistically about Ipswich’s upcoming PL tie against Manchester City on August 23. “I think we’re going to be humbled in the next week at Manchester City,” said the 4x Grammy winner.

But Liverpool had different plans, as they comfortably scored twice while dominating the game with better possession and more attempts. After all, Sheeran thought Ipswich would start cooking major Premier League upsets from the start. But Pep Guardiola’s side already terrifies the 33-year-old singer. However, the best Ipswich can hope for is an upset win against Manchester City. But after the loss against Liverpool, Ipswich is likely to cut a vanquished figure against the Cityzens as well. So it is not surprising for the avid English soccer fan, Ed Sheeran to predict a loss against the Sky Blues.
