Former Wrexham goalkeeper wins prestigious UEFA award

It seems Wrexham can’t stop getting their names in the headlines as yet another star linked with the Welsh club has put stars on their name. This comes after the former Red’s goalkeeper, Xavi Valero has won a crucial UEFA coach award. The former Spanish international has become the Europa Conference League-winning goalkeeper coach.

Valero won the award with West Ham after the Hammers won the UEFA Europa Conference League yesterday by defeating Serie A side Fiorentina. It is indeed quite an achievement for the former Dragons’ star. His coaching resume consists the names of some of the most renowned European clubs.

Valero has coached the likes of Liverpool, Inter Milan, Napoli, and Real Madrid. Aside from also being a video analyst at Chelsea, he also worked at China’s Hebei FC. Speaking of his playing career, then the keeper has played for a host of Spanish clubs. He joined Wrexham in 2007, where he played just three games, before hanging up his boots.

West Ham win the Europa Conference League

It has been quite a journey for West Ham, as they won the prestigious European competition. The Hammers rallied a 2-1 win against Fiorentina at the Czech Republic’s Eden Arena. After a goalless, first half, David Moyes’ side broke the deadlock with Said Benrahma’s 62nd-minute penalty.

However, the Italian giants spoiled the early celebrations for the Londoners, as Giacomo Bonaventura leveled just after five minutes. Both sides fought aggressively. However, it was the PL side who managed to clinch a victory. A late winner from Jarrod Bowen sealed the victory for West Ham.
