"Should Wrexham's star stay loyal to Reynolds and McElhenney, or chase Premier League dreams?"

Wrexham AFC is undoubtedly one of the most promising soccer teams in the lower tier. The third oldest club in the World has been getting a lot of wind in their sails as they have reached the English Football League’s League One from the National League in the space of two years. In addition, the pool of players it possesses appears to be exciting as one former club’s star claims that a Red Dragon player matches the level of the Premier League. More importantly, the player is also given a heads-up about leaving the club and having a major disadvantage.

Former Wrexham defender Ben Tozer feels that highly talented Max Cleworth could land up in the English top flight. In his recent statement on Ben Foster’s Podcast, Fozcast, he stated, “I think Max has gotten Premier League written all over him.” However, the player will be at a disadvantage if he chooses to exit from Ryan Reynolds’ club suggests Tozer. He further said, “But it’s whether he wants to go to the Premier League now, and not play because realistically he’s not going to start, but to be fair he might,” giving him him less chances of starting there.

The 21-year-old has played his role in the club’s consecutive promotions. Growing up in the youth ranks of the Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s club, he has featured for Wrexham’s senior time 87 times already. Starting most of the games for the League 2 runners-up, he already won two Young Player of the Season awards with them.

Therefore, Tozer also stated, “Or does he stay with Wrexham, go all the way up through to the Premier League, and possibly captain the club and go that route?” Hinting that Cleworth could captain the team in the Premier League if he continues with them.

Cleworth already aims big to lead Wrexham in the future

Similar to Tozer’s views Max Cleworth has already expressed his interest in leading the Hollywood stars’ team in the future. A couple of months ago, he stated that captaincy was something that he would like to take up in the future, despite not being sure of its possibility. Nevertheless, not thinking too far ahead, the center-back also stated that he is enjoying playing for the club at the moment and is waiting for the events.

On the other hand, amid all the excitement of a great future in store, the club has some work cut out this transfer window. No big signings have been completed yet apart from Arthur Okonkwo’s permanent deal. As they aim to build their squad for the highly-skilled League One, looks like Cleworth will get some new colleagues at the backline.
