Another day, another milestone to think about for Cristiano Ronaldo. The Al Nassr star will embark on another series of international matches after two decades of similar games in full throttle. During his 20-year career, the talisman broke many records. This time, he has another opportunity to become the highest goalscorer in European qualifiers. However, heading to the game, the Portuguese coach revealed specific plans for the trail-blazing marksman.
The team may go into this set of games merely to keep up the momentum and consolidate their tactics. Notably, Portugal has already qualified for the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany, which leaves no pressure for the team to perform. With a low-intensity game, Ronaldo should start to achieve his milestone, right? Well, Martinez stands firm on not offering respite for the Madeira goal-scoring machine!

It’s widely acknowledged how significant Cristiano Ronaldo is for the Portuguese team. Even though he is 38, the team still counts on him to score goals. In these European qualifiers, the star continued to keep scoring and help the team qualify for the latter stages.
Nevertheless, on the verge of Ronaldo becoming the highest goalscorer in the 2024 Euro Qualifier edition, his coach, Roberto Martinez, believes soccer is a team game, not a one-man team!
In the press conference, a journalist questioned Martinez if he would help Ronaldo reach the milestone. To which he said, “No. We want to strengthen the relationship between the players and the experience and patterns of play in tomorrow’s match. Clarifying attack patterns is important, and we need Cristiano as a team. The individual numbers come from the team. If we perform as a team, the individual numbers will come. But that is not our goal.”

Martinez insisted that their primary aim is to improve tactics, understand patterns on the field, and construct team cohesion. The former Everton coach has a unique bond with Ronaldo and said he had conversations with him after getting into his new role. He now wants Ronaldo to play in a team by creating a blueprint for him to score more goals!

The Portuguese captain had a disappointing World Cup last year. However, Ronaldo scored nine goals in the run-up to Euro 2024 next summer. The 5x Ballon d’Or winner competes with Romelu Lukaku, who scored ten goals in the Euro 2024 Qualifier. Likewise, Ronaldo already holds the record for the all-time top scorer in the build-up to the Euros with 40 goals.
CR7 featured in six competitions earlier, winning the 2016 edition. The forward also won the silver ball in the competition. Portugal will take on Liechtenstein and Iceland in the last two fixtures today and November 19, respectively.
