Manchester City just about managed to get the job done against Everton. Pep Guardiola’s free-flowing side overcame the Merseyside-based club 2-0, courtesy of an Erling Haaland brace. They even enjoyed 72% of the possession. But the stats don’t paint the full picture and pundits have labelled the game as one of Man City’s worst this season. With one particular stat leaving them unimpressed.
With this victory, Man City is second in the Premier League table behind Liverpool. Interestingly, they have a game in hand over their rivals. With Erling Haaland in sensational form upon his return from injury, Guardiola will be hoping to play spoilsport in Jurgen Klopp’s final season with the Reds.

Frank Leboeuf did not seem to enjoy the Sky Blues’ display against Everton. He said on ESPN FC, “They (Man City) had to wait for the 70-second minute to get the goal and the shot on target.” Interestingly, Man City had just 3 shots on target in the entire game! He further added, “It was maybe one of the worst games that I’ve seen from City this season.” Craig Burley also agreed with him and said it was a job done and another 3 points but it wasn’t good.
However, the experts recognized one thing. Steve Nicol was questioned, “What does it say when your Poorest performance is also a comfortable win.” His reply was that it shows how good Man City as a team are. And a major reason for that is Erling Haaland. The striker just can’t seem to stop scoring and Steve Nicol aptly described him as he iterated, “Every single time the ball comes near and you think he’s going to score.”

This is the first time the Norwegian striker has scored since his comeback from injury. The star was recently asked to describe his injury layoff and he did not mince his words at all.
Erling Haaland describes his time on the sidelines as ‘horrible’
The Premier League’s leading goalscorer missed more than a month of action due to a foot injury in December. This caused him to miss many important matches, leaving the striker frustrated. Erling Haaland said, “Nah, it’s been horrible. I really don’t like it. But it makes you appreciate more going into training every day, meeting up for games, being a bit nervous before games, all of these things.”

Moreover, the Man City striker also added that the injury changed his way of thinking and made him more appreciative regarding training. Haaland’s injury was a blow to Guardiola, who was also without playmaker Kevin De Bruyne. Now that the duo are back, can Man City win the Premier League? Let us know in the comments below.
