451 of Cristiano Ronaldo‘s 902 goals came during his Real Madrid stint. During that era, he saw Madrid win four Champions League titles in five years. However, former Los Blancos forward Antonio Cassano did not hesitate to belittle Ronaldo and his 900-goal milestone. Cassano hinted that CR7 only prioritizes scoring goals and “doesn’t know how to play football.”

How could Elma Aveiro stay silent when someone speaks so ill of her brother? As usual, Elma drew daggers against a CR7 naysayer, and Cassano has been mocked outrageously.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister Elma Aveiro took to Instagram stories and boldly hinted that Cassano critiqued her brother because he could never mirror his achievements. “One wakes up to these things. I don’t know this poor guy. It doesn’t matter, but just one thing for him, he doesn’t know how to score 900 goals. Imagine if he did,” Elma wrote on Instagram.

Cassano said Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t play team games like his contemporaries such as Karim Benzema and Luis Suarez. Meanwhile, Elma wonders if Cassano even played ball, let alone play a team game.

“They say he was a footballer. I think they’re wrong, he was certainly a ball boy,” Elma added in another Instagram story. Well, that was indeed a huge dig to take on someone like Cassano who has plied his trade for European giants such as Madrid and AS Roma. So what did the Italian baller really say about Ronaldo that infuriated Elma this much? Let’s find out.

Cassano mocked Cristiano Ronaldo for prioritizing his goal tally

Antonio Cassano said he wouldn’t be surprised if Cristiano Ronaldo scored 3,000 goals. But he thinks the Portuguese skipper can’t play ball. “He could score 3,000 goals, and I wouldn’t care. Players like [Gonzalo] Higuain, [Sergio] Aguero, [Karim] Benzema, [Robert] Lewandowski, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, and [Luis] Suarez understood how to connect with their teammates,” said Cassano during a Viva El Futbol episode. He has also notably once demanded that Ronaldo should retire.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Cassano's criticism of Ronaldo just jealousy, or does he have a point?

Back in 2022, Ronaldo was entangled in Portugal’s abysmal and premature World Cup exit and his second Manchester United stint went south. At that time, the Italian striker was convinced that CR7’s career was done. But the Al Nassr captain is far from quitting. He became last year’s top goalscorer, beating mighty European youngsters. This year he scored his 902nd goal.

And as for Ronaldo’s so-called selfishness and goal obsession, he averaged 0.3 assists per game during his Real Madrid stint. Besides, even though this Euro has been quite forgetful and goalless for CR7, he rewrote the competition’s assist record. He is currently the all-time assist leader in the UEFA Euro history.

Considering all this, it’s no big surprise that Elma Aveiro has lashed at the former Blancos striker.
