Argentina booked their place in the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup yesterday. They beat Robert Lewandowski’s Poland 2-0 in their final group game of the competition. It was a thriller of a fixture, as it involved two brilliant goals and a missed penalty from Lionel Messi. Messi got an opportunity to put Argentina ahead through a penalty in the first half. However, he missed from the spot, making an infamous record.
Piers Morgan, who has had some arguments on social media with Andy Murray about Messi and Ronaldo, took fired shots at the tennis superstar after Messi’s miss.

Lionel Messi has been in fine form in the World Cup. He has scored two goals in the competition so far and could score more in the coming games. Leo Messi had a beautiful opportunity to put Argentina in front in the first half but failed to slot past the Polish goalkeeper. However, the 2-time world champions came back stronger in the 2nd half and scored two goals to qualify for the knockouts. However, despite Messi’s penalty miss, he had an incredible game, creating several chances for his teammates.

Argentina will now face Australia in the Round of 16 at the World Cup. Poland, on the other hand, will face defending champions France. Argentina lost their opening game of the competition against Saudi Arabia, who crashed out of the group stages with just one win. However, they broke Argentina’s 36-game unbeaten streak. Argentina will now aim to improve to win the World Cup for the 3rd time.
