The ground has been leveled for all the teams in the Premier League. The giants, Manchester City, who were looking for unstoppable last season, were suddenly blown away by Aston Villa yesterday at Villa Park. An ongoing streak of unexpected results has Pep Guardiola and Co. going through a little tussle, making it susceptible to conceding the odd goal at the wrong time, claimed a former Premier League star.

The grind will test Pep Guardiola for the next few weeks, or even the entire season. The team has slid to 4th place after a 1-0 defeat to Unai Emery’s Villans.

The team came after a draw against Tottenham Hotspur, expecting to get back on track. But the result proved even worse, as the Cityzens did not score even once. According to BBC, former Arsenal defender Martin Keown found this team beatable, saying, “They look vulnerable”. After intimidating other clubs for years, teams have found ways to earn points against the treble winners.

The team just had two shots in the entire game, which was saved by Emi Martinez in the eleventh minute. But they never looked like the team to score more goals on the day. The team’s previous results could have been a reason for yesterday’s subpar performance after looking a bit subdued. Pep Guardiola is already struggling with his midfield. Their crucial and ‘most important’ player, Rodri’s absence and the departure of Ilkay Gundogan, along with Kevin De Bruyne’s injury, have been costing them heavily.

Even Erling Haaland could not produce his magic to beat the Villa defense. Apart from the midfield, even their backline seems to be at a lapse. This is the worst start for the club since the 2009 season when they conceded 17 or more goals in the first 15 games. The current performance could be alarming, and the club will want to address it as soon as they can.

The treble winners have not won in their last four Premier League games. It is the first time it has happened since 2017. Keown said the team is going through a rough phase and is ‘in a mini-crisis.’ Shockingly, the last few matches before the current game saw Manchester City lose points from winning positions.

Manchester City has lost a goal advantage multiple times in the dying minutes of games this season. Unable to maintain composure, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham were allowed to get away with a point.
