The manager position at Barcelona has to be one of the toughest jobs in the world. All appointments after Pep Guardiola could not help the Blaugrana reach the same level of success. While Luis Enrique and Xavi came close, the two were sacked before they could reach their objectives. It seems like the pressure is now on Hansi Flick with the former Bayern Munich boss appointed as the new Barcelona head coach last month. While Flick has what it takes to restore Barcelona to their former glory, things aren’t going to in easy in any sense.

The Barcelona job comes with a lot of additional pressure. While it’s one thing to win games, Blaugrana wants to require any manager to play a certain way. Fans and the upper echelon do not shy away from criticizing the management even during wins, making the Camp Nou role a fiery hot seat. No one understands this better than Pep Guardiola.

With Hansi Flick taking over his former position, the Spaniard had some words of wisdom for his successor. Guardiola stated, “Try to get help from within. Whenever you go to a new club, you need help, at Barça especially. The year and a half he spent at Bayern was extraordinary. They won everything, how they played.”

Getting help from within makes sense, especially how things turned out with Xavi. The former Barcelona boss was sacked last month despite producing excellent results for the team. According to reports, Xavi lost the support of the Barcelona boardroom after the manager talked about the club’s finances in public. It will be interesting to see how things end up with Hansi Flick, with the German manager known to be very vocal about his approach.

Joan Laporta gives his blunt take on Hansi Flick’s appointment

Barcelona’s poor finances are hidden from no one with the Catalan club struggling to sign top names. Isolating a $55 million signing under such conditions is one way to wake out of the door. While there have been many rumors over Xavi’s exit, reports claim Barcelona’s boardroom was discontented with the Spaniard after he talked about the club’s poor finances while disregarding an expensive signing. Well, with Xavi gone and a new manager coming in, one would think that the Blaugrana would give him some sort of leeway over transfers. However, that certainly isn’t the case.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta touched down on Hansi Flick’s appointment while talking to the club’s media stating, “Flick is clear that he always has to look to La Masia. [Flick] knows he has some gems here, like Lamine Yamal, Héctor Fort, Pau Cubarsi, Balde, and Gavi. He is excited about working with the young players. He is very motivated about getting the best out of this team.”

It isn’t hard to read between the lines. From the looks of it, Barcelona’s management wants the German to rely upon the club’s budding talents rather than spend big on transfers. Only time will tell if this tactic works out in the club’s favor. Do you think Barcelona will make any high-profile signings this summer? Let us know in the comments below.
