Over the last two seasons, several reports have claimed that Real Madrid has reached an agreement with Kylian Mbappe. However, that hasn’t stopped stories linking the club to Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. In this instance, the manager of the Sky Blues, Pep Guardiola, has offered the officials at the Bernabeu a simple yet effective strategy to sign his star striker. Amusingly, the Spanish tactician also believes that this strategy could also save him a lot of time. What could he be referring to?
Haaland, whose current campaign has been disrupted by injuries, is still at the top of the Premier League goalscoring charts (14 goals). And so, it’s understandable as to why a club with the stature of Real Madrid is interested in the towering Norwegian.

In a recent interview, the Man City boss gave a witty reply to what Los Blancos need to do to get the Premier League’s best goal scorer on board. He said, “If someone wants Erling Haaland, it’s easy! Phone, call ManCity, and ask. It’s what we do when we want someone. It’s not more complicated than that”
Guardiola’s reply seems to be a dig at how journalists at press conferences question the manager regarding every new development of players. He further added, “If you have to comment on every news when it’s coming from external, you’d never finish the press conference!“

Haaland is expected to start in the upcoming match against Brentford following his recent return from injury. Real Madrid has long been an admirer of the prolific goalscorer. What interests them most is the financial aspect of a potential deal. Despite, having a contract until 2027, Erling Haaland is said to have a release clause of $109 million. Interestingly, this is valid only for non-English clubs.
On the other hand, Kylian Mbappe will likely cost Madrid much more than that due to his salary demands & signing bonus, despite being a free agent. However, even disregarding the finances, a legendary manager believes Haaland is a better signing for the Spanish giants from a sporting point of view.

Italian great Fabio Capello, who has won 24 major trophies as a manager, believes Haaland is the need of the hour at Los Blancos. He said, “If Madrid is going to sign, they have to ask themselves if they have a center forward now. And it doesn’t have it. He needs that more”
Following the departure of Karim Benzema, Madrid lacks a world-class number 9 and Capello believes Erling Haaland could fill the void. Moreover, he also cites Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo as players who are quality options on the wing. However, he has no doubts regarding who the better player is. He said, “But if you are going to look at technical quality, who is the better footballer, Mbappé is above Haaland.”
