The shadow of Pep Guardiola has always loomed on Luis Enrique. Both are player-turned-managers with a Barcelona connection. In contrast to the cool and calculated demeanour of the Man City boss, however, Enrique’s fierce and firey attitude has always seen him have issues with his players. The Kylian Mbappe saga is the latest one in the bunch. And the Spaniard’s treatment of his star player hasn’t gone down well with journalist Daniel Riolo.

As per le10sport, journalist Riolo doesn’t understand Enrique’s inconsistency when it comes to decision-making. In this regard, he is different from Guardiola as per the journalist. He said, “ nothing.” Moreover, Riolo added that it is impossible to implement Enrique’s style of play due to the numerous changes he makes in the starting 11.

The context behind Riolo’s comments was the game against Monaco on Saturday. PSG drew the game o-0 but the talking point was Kylian Mbappe. After the first half, to everyone’s shock, Mbappe was substituted for Randal Kolo Muani. A ballsy move, but unfortunately it did not bear fruit as PSG were unable to break through the Monaco defence. This is the second successive game where the PSG ace was replaced, after being subbed off against Rennes in the 65th minute.

PSG have to ‘get used to not playing’ with Kylian Mbappe as per Enrique

Following the Rennes match, the PSG boss asked about the future of Kylian Mbappe. Enrique answered, ” We have to get used to not playing with Kylian; sooner or later it will happen. When I consider it appropriate, he will play or not play, like all coaches do with their players.” Moreover, the Spaniard also discussed the team’s aspirations for the next season.

He explained, “I want maximum competitiveness for next season. I want every starting player on this PSG team to think that this is a great opportunity. This is what I am looking for this season and for next season.” Enrique’s attitude is commendable. However, replacing a player like Kylian Mbappe is far easier said than done.
