Now they are out of the competition after losing against Morocco on penalties.

Spain started their game well and created some incredible chances in the 90 mins. However, they couldn’t find a breakthrough despite nearing the goal on several occasions. The game went into extra time as it ended in a stalemate after 90 mins. Both sides failed to score, and the game was decided on penalties.
Spain had one of the strongest rosters in the World Cup. While they have a strong defense and midfield, the attack has been their biggest worry. It was visible during the game as they struggled to score a goal. Fans were unhappy with Spain’s performance during the penalties and called them out on social media.

Luis Enrique’s Spain hasn’t been the same since their 7-0 win over Costa Rica. They drew their 2nd game of the World Cup against 2014 champions Germany with a scoreline of 1-1. They created a lot of chances in the game and failed to convert. Germany scored a late equalizer to end the game in a stalemate.

Spain lost their final group game of the FIFA World Cup against Japan. Japan finished as the group winners after winning over Germany and Spain. However, even they lost on penalties against Croatia in the Round of 16. Both teams from Group E are now out of the World Cup.

Morocco, on the other hand, became only the fourth African team to reach the Quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup. It is also worth noting that they conceded just one goal in the competition so far. They are surely the dark horse of the World Cup as many didn’t expect them to make a deep run.
