Ever since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over Wrexham, the Red Dragons have witnessed a landmark change in their fortunes. Another important takeaway of the Welsh soccer club‘s newfound success has been the incredulous media and brand coverage they have been receiving. Celebrity partnerships aren’t a rarity today for the Red Dragons. However, it was overwhelming for many Wrexham players in the beginning. In a recent interview, Paul Mullin revealed his hilarious reaction when he first met popular Hollywood comic Will Ferell.

From playing non-league football to ending their 15-year absence from League 2 this season, the Welsh club has come a long way under their Hollywood ownership.

Paul Mullin recently made an appearance for GOAL’s online video series. Over there, the Wrexham talisman made a host of revelations including his first memory of meeting Will Ferrell. A beloved Hollywood star to Mullin, the 56-year-old actor left the Englishman astonished. Their unexpected encounter took place in the Red Dragons’ dressing room.

“Obviously last season they’ve come up to play Liverpool, Will Ferrell just stood in the changing room and you’re like well if I wasn’t expecting that,” recalled Mullin. He then revealed his shocking reaction to the meeting but ended on the note that such interactions are normal for him now. “That’s a bit mad and things like that but obviously now when so-and-so’s coming in next week; Sweet, no problem,” said the Wrexham striker.

This meeting was only possible due to Will Ferrell’s Wrexham tour last year where the veteran actor spent a day in the city and bonded over in local pubs and culture.

Will Ferrell has never shied away from expressing his appreciation for ‘Welcome to Wrexham’. Hence it was only a matter of time before he visited the city itself to experience it. Last year, he finally took the plunge and did a UK tour. He spent an entire day in the city of Wrexham and hung out with locals as shown in the documentary. What surprised him the most was the tight connection the community members shared with the club and the ownership.

“I think what is happening here in Wrexham is incredible,” Ferrell told The Athletic on his first visit to the Racecourse Ground. “Ryan and Rob have done it so well. Making sure they connected with the community, making sure they listened to the community.” He also visited the staff members of the club and ended the day with a beer at a local pub.
