“Pathetic Showing” – Alex Morgan Misses Penalty as Thousands of American Fans Unimpressed Despite USWNT’s 3–0 Win Over Vietnam in World Cup Opener

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign for the USWNT is underway. The game saw them winning the match 3-0 against Vietnam, and their performance on the pitch sent a warning to the other teams. However, the young American players’ play patterns didn’t blend well, leaving fans surprised. They dominated the game from start to finish and scored crucial goals at the right time. Yet, the soccer team’s performance has not impressed many, and fans want more in the next game!

Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe hope their squad will live up to expectations and complete the dream of winning a three-peat. Although they won comfortably, there are heavier challenges to come in the next stages of the tournament. Yet,  fans remain skeptical about the team’s run in the World Cup!

Fans react to USWNT’s underwhelming victory

Sophia Smith scored two goals, but their star player Morgan missed a penalty in the 44th minute. They rallied back as Lindsey Horan scored a goal to make it three, while Rapinoe made her 200th appearance. But fans want more and think the team needs to be better. One fan commented on how the team found it hard to defeat a low-ranked opposition. 

Another fan explained the difficulty in blending the older players with the younger generation.

One fan wanted the team to step up, otherwise, risks getting thumped in the latter stages of the competition.

The playing style failed to impress another USWNT fan following their lackadaisical approach.

Before the tournament, no team was as hyped as the USWNT. Yet, their performance didn’t match the hype, according to another fan.

If they carry on with this performance, the team would create history. After winning the 2015 and the 2019 World Cup, things are looking likely for the team to go on a deep run.

Can the USWNT win the three-peat?

But, the big question in the room is about the ability of the team to win the World Cup three times in a row. Despite having Morgan, Trinity Rodman, and a host of other stars, they need to hit the next gear in the next game. Spain entered the party with their stunning match against Costa Rica by scoring three goals in the space of seven minutes. Nobody can overlook England considering they are European Champions. Meanwhile, Sam Kerr and Australia have a lot to prove as well.

The 2023 Women’s World Cup will not be a straightforward tournament for the USWNT to complete a three-peat. All the teams are in it for one reason, and that is to win. Can the USWNT complete the historical three-peat?
