Parents of a female soccer player in one of the reputed colleges of the US have lodged a complaint after they found her dead body. The player has represented her college in NCAA and won the championship. The heartbreaking news came when the FIFA World cup was going on in Qatar, and it got overshadowed. Katie Meyer had a 3.84 CGPA and was dreaming of being a lawyer. She was also the captain of the team and led the team in various tournaments. According to the parents, the university’s actions were responsible for the step of suicide that Katie took.

According to the parents on Feb 28- 2022, Katie fice timed them and talked as if everything was normal. She talk to her mom and sister where she talked about the plans she had made for spring breaks. Katie was found mere hours after the call, and after investigation, authorities labeled the case a suicide.
NCAA player’s parents are suing Stanford University
According to the Washington Post, the parents have lodged a case against the university for negligence and recklessness. Katie was just a few months away from graduating and was facing disciplinary action for spilling coffee on a football player accused of sexually assaulting one of Katie’s teammates.
The parents of Katie Meyer, a star goalie who died by suicide last spring, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Stanford.

According to the report, the NCAA player got the mail from the office of community standards, determining that her degree was on hold, as she faced potential removal from the university. The incident took place in August 2021.
Katie’s parents filed the suit in the last week of November. It says, “Stanford?s after-hours disciplinary charge, and the reckless nature and manner of submission to Katie, caused Katie to suffer an acute stress reaction that impulsively led to her suicide… Katie?s suicide was completed without planning and solely in response to the shocking and deeply distressing information she received from Stanford while alone in her room without any support or resources.”
Stanford has a suicide problem
According to reports, Stanford had seen at least 9 suicides in the last 3 years. College’s preparations for a mentally healthy environment are good for nothing. The top bar that the university set gave students pride, but that pride is what makes it impossible for them to be able to withstand even a slight bit of failure.

Stanford has released a statement about the case of Katie Meyer, denying all the allegations and labeling the complaint misleading. In their official statement, they said, “The Stanford community continues to grieve Katie?s tragic death … However, we strongly disagree with any assertion that the university is responsible for her death.”
