El Clasico is one of the best rivalries in soccer. It is an enormous tie for La Liga when the two arch-rivals, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, take on each other. The Clasico has so far given many notable moments in history and is a fiercely fought game. El Clasico never fails to entertain soccer fans around the globe. This game lived up to its potential as Barcelona ran away winners with a close 2-1 win at home.

Barcelona wore a special jersey for the Clasico at Camp Nou. The players from the Catalan club donned a jersey with Rosalia’s MOTOMAMI album logo. They donned the jersey with a special logo to celebrate one year of the album and Rosalia’s massive success on Spotify, which is the official sponsor of the club. 

Fans react to FC Barcelona brushing past Real Madrid in El Clasico

Barcelona came into the game amid ongoing corruption charges. Their arch-rivals Real Madrid recently released an official statement saying they will participate in the procedure as an affected party. It sparked reactions from Barcelona fans, and anticipating a hostile welcome at Camp Nou, Madrid’s president didn’t travel to Camp Nou for the game. 

In the 81st minute, a goal scored by Madrid was choked off for a close offside. One of the Twitter handles posted the VAR image of the offside sparking reactions from the fans. Most of the fans quickly brought the Barcelona corruption charges into the discussion.

Soccer fans blamed the referees for choking off the Marco Asensio goal and reacted by saying Barcelona paid referees. The loss in the dying moments of the game disappointed Los Blancos fans, as Madrid’s title hopes took a serious hit.

The Catalan club takes a 12-point lead at the top of the table

The match saw Real Madrid take the lead in ten minutes. The attack from the left led to a goal when a cross from Vinicius Jr. was turned into his own net by Ronald Araujo. However, Barcelona responded well to the goal and started dominating the game. Their continuous pressure on Madrid resulted in an equalizer in the 45th minute of the game when Sergi Roberto scored past Thibaut Courtois.

Los Blancos took the lead again in the 81st minute, but VAR choked the goal off for the offside. The game became more open towards the end with both sides pushing for the winner. Second-half substitute, Frank Kessie, was found perfectly by Balde in the added time of the second half. Kessie’s goal turned out to be the winner as Barcelona end the game 2-1. They now have a 12-point lead on the top of the league table.
