A heavy earthquake hit Turkey and Syria on Monday, killing hundreds and injuring thousands of citizens. Rescue operations are underway, and reports still fear many are under the rubble. The incidents shook the soccer world, and former and current soccer stars are sending their thoughts to the victims.

There was news of several soccer teams and players affected by the quake in Turkey. Many athletes from other sports were stranded because of the tremors and are believed to be safe. Meanwhile, soccer players are calling for urgent help to the stranded people by appealing to fans worldwide.

The soccer world reacts to the natural disaster in Turkey and Syria

Former Manchester United legend and Inter Miami owner, David Beckham, prayed for the citizens of the affected countries through his Instagram story. Former Brazil legend Ricardo Kaka, former Arsenal superstar Robin van Persie and former Japanese star Keisuke Honda joined him. 

Former Real Madrid defense stalwarts Sergio Ramos, Pepe, and the Brazilian Marcelo also shared their thoughts with the people of Turkey and Syria.

Current Premier League stars Mohamed Salah, Riyad Mahrez, and Manchester United starlet Amad Diallo also shared their condolences.

La Liga stars were not behind in showing their solidarity with the citizens of Turkey and Syria. Real Madrid defender David Alaba, midfielder Luka Modric and Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo also shared their thoughts with those affected by the tremors.

The tremors sent shockwaves around the world. The tremors affected the soccer players playing for various clubs in the country. They rescued former Newcastle player and Ghana international Christian Atsu from the rubble. The player is injured and is receiving treatment. Ghana FA has confirmed the reports.

Atsu plays for Turkish club Hatayspor, whose sporting director is still under the rubble, as per reports. Meanwhile, the goalkeeper of Turkish second-division side Yeni Malatyaspor was found dead under the rubble. The name of the goalkeeper was Ahmet Turksalan.

Former Turkey goalkeeper cries for help

Ex-Fenerbahce goalkeeper and current Hatayspor manager Volkan Demirel was in tears on Instagram live when he asked the world to help Turkey. Demirel said, “Help… I want you to send all the resources you have. To the environmentalist, it is not just Hatay and Antakya… Please, I am asking you! Please, please, for the love of god, people are dying here,” with teary eyes.
