The Portuguese superstar’s interview instantly blew up, with fans left stunned by some of the things the Portuguese had to say about his former employer, Manchester United.
A year after the iconic interview, Piers Morgan took to his official social media handle to remind fans of his interaction with the soccer icon. The interview saw the two of them touch down on numerous topics. However, it was Ronaldo’s words against Erik ten Hag and Manchester United that had the biggest ramifications.

Cristiano Ronaldo went all in on his former club during the interview with Piers Morgan. The current Al Nassr captain claimed that the team stopped developing following the departure of former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

He stated, “A club with this dimension should be at the top of the tree, in my opinion, and they are not, unfortunately. They are not at that level. But I hope in the next few years they can reach to be in a top level. I don’t know what’s going on, but since Sir Alex Ferguson left, I saw no evolution in the club. The progress was zero.”

Ronaldo, during the interview also touched down on his relationship with manager Erik ten Hag. The Portuguese did not shy away from voicing his thoughts against the manager. “The coach didn’t have respect for me. So this is why the relationship, it’s in that way. He keeps saying in the press that he comes to me, he likes me blah, blah, blah, but that is only for the press, 100 percent. If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never going to have respect for you.”
Manchester United following the interview was quick to take action against the player. The soccer icon was suspended by the club with immediate effect, which then saw the two parties part ways in November.
