Wrexham AFC is in a dilemma after reaching English soccer’s third tier. The club has been undergoing changes every year since the new owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over. But this time it’s looking at a major makeover with more serious competition ahead. Hence, the manager Phil Parkinson has some major plans in terms of their roster as he aims to acquire stronger players to fill his squad after leaving the doors open for 9 players’ exit. More interestingly, despite the lack of a complete squad, the coach has hinted at letting go of a couple more players.

Wrexham are clear in their plans for the upcoming spell. It’s not just a complete squad, but the team is looking at a surplus. According to the Leader, Phil Parkinson will send a few players on loan before the upcoming transfer window ends. He is reported to have said, “If we bring players in over the 22 then obviously there will be an opportunity for maybe one or two lads to go out on loan.” The coach aims to have more weaponry at his disposal by reaching the senior player cap.

The squad limit for senior players in League One is 22 barring goalkeepers and the players who are under 21 at the beginning of the season. But the club has already let go of many stars, including the club captain Ben Tozer and first team captain Luke Young. But the plans are expected to take effect around the pre-season according to Parkinson. New signings played a huge part in Wrexham’s success over the past two years with the likes of Ollie Palmer and Steven Fletcher scoring crucial goals. Hence, reports suggested that the club is holding meetings with the players and their agents, but has a few parameters to have them.

Having won two consecutive promotions, Phil Parkinson is not ready to compromise on their requirements. For him, the dressing room environment and coherence between the players play a major part, but coming to an individual, fighting spirit is a must. Parkinson said that he needs athletes who will come back and win games for the team after losing games. Additionally, he expects players to prove themselves in the training sessions if they get sidelined. These are the requirements he’d consider before getting into the transfer market. However, the club also faced a bit of scrutiny.

Wrexham have lost a chance to sign Conor Hourihane as the player rejected the Red Dragon’s offer according to reports. The player instead chose League One rivals Barnsley. The former Aston Villa captain would have been huge for Phil Parkinson, getting a lot of top-tier experience along with him. Nevertheless, the club will leave it behind and stick to players who are keen to be a part of their journey without compromising on the club’s values.
