The soccer world is buzzing with excitement as the 2024 National Women’s Soccer League season approaches. Beyond the traditional preparations by all 14 teams, attention is shifting to off-pitch events. In a significant development, the NWSL is set to have its own reality show as Alexis Ohanian and USWNT star Midge Purce come together with their ‘radical idea‘ to launch ‘The Offseason.’
This groundbreaking development comes at the heels of a social media update by the husband of legendary tennis star Serena Williams, who also co-owns Angel City FC. Posting a bunch of pictures, he wrote a big caption explaining the upcoming show. “I’ve always said that it’s our job as team owners to tell the story of our players every minute they’re *not* on the field. Today, I’m excited to share a new series I’ve been working on with Midge Purce to do just that,” wrote Ohanian. Further explaining the Offseason FC, it is a 6-episode series that highlights the lives of 11 top-tier NWSL players over a two-week period during the off-season.

Ohanian explained that the show gives fans a closer look at the lives of the players who ‘train, party, and live together under one roof.’ Notably, he has partnered with TV producer Alex Baskin and Box to Box Films to produce the show. “It was a radical idea in 2019 for me to start an NWSL club in LA; and in 2023, everyone in Hollywood told me it was a radical idea to incubate a production company & unscripted show like Offseason FC,” he added. While expressing his desire to make everyone realize that women’s sports are an ‘obvious vehicle all along,’ he concluded, “Someone just had to be first.” Indeed, this is a groundbreaking development. It comes just after NWSL got its first-ever weekly show.
