Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have recently garnered significant attention due to their success with Wrexham. Everyone who was a part of the team helped the club achieve significant success. Especially the new additions to the squad played a major role in boosting their chances to win the silverware. The likes of Paul Mullin, Ben Tozer, and Elliot Lee came to the Racecourse Ground to help them cross the line.

Among the hefty list of arrivals, one key name was Tom O’Connor. The midfielder signed for the Red Dragons on the transfer deadline day of the 2022 January window. Since then, he has been clinical for Phil Parkinson’s side. O’Connor’s transfer was a quick one, and recently his agent revealed how they got him hooked up with the club before signing him.

In a recent podcast with SportsJoe, Tom O’Connor’s agent, Stephen Hunt, revealed how Wrexham managed to sign the midfielder. He said he had “a player that had to drop down two divisions, but was rewarded with a contract.” But he rejected them, saying, “’No chance come back to me on another day, come back to me on some other player. And then they insisted on me hearing them out, to be fair, and it was Wrexham that had come in for him.”

He continued, “And he dropped down and didn’t get promoted last year and there was a little bit of me that felt, ‘Sugar, he’d be playing higher if it was’, but he bought into the bigger future of Wrexham and, and now it looks like a great decision because not only the financial side of things but the football side of things are massive down there now.

Hunt also hailed the club because of “the exposure they’re getting,” as they are set to play a friendly against Chelsea and stating the obvious league two. “I went to watch them against Coventry. They had 8000 Wrexham fans there.” He also said it was quite a “tricky situation” for him and O’Connor.

“Because you’re getting the contract in front of you. You go, ‘Wow, that’s some contract. This is what I can do with this,’” he added, later adding O’Conner’s dad also helped him to make a decision. It seems both are happy with the decision, as O’Conner has become a part of a massive history of Wrexham. In fact, it would be unlikely that Phil Parkinson will be looking to change his squad.

Recently, Parkinson stated he aims to maintain the current squad. The gaffer looks to avoid making wholesale changes to preserve team chemistry and togetherness.

As stated by the Leader, he said, “That is what we have tried to do and now we have put a squad in place which has got us promoted, it doesn’t need major surgery to push on again. I feel we have got a lot of players who will be ready for next season which is good from our point of view.”

However, some trimmings are required in order to bring the best out of the team. Either way, it’s going to be a busy summer for Reynolds’ side. It will be interesting to see what have planned for the team.
