Bale was one of the highest earners, earning a massive $600,000 a week at Real Madrid until the end of his contract. The former Welsh forward did play a vital role in Real Madrid’s success over the last decade. After leaving Madrid, Bale had various offers on the table from European clubs but joined MLS side LAFC instead.

He signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles-based club with an option for another year. He joined the club mid-season and helped them win an MLS Cup by scoring an important goal in the final. Meanwhile, Bale earned peanuts at LAFC compared to his Real Madrid salary. His salary at LAFC was a mere $30,000 per week.

In context, Bale’s earnings dwarfed in comparison to Premier League flops playing in the MLS. Xherdan Shaqiri, one of the highest-paid players in the league, earns around $141,346 per week. Moreover, Christian Benteke earns nearly $76,923 gross per week. Both former Liverpool players had unsuccessful stints with the Merseyside club. Another Premier League flop, Victor Wanyama (former Tottenham Hotspurs player), also cashed in more than Bale.?

Despite six months remaining in the contract, Bale retired from professional soccer in January. Wrexham owners, however, tried to convince him to join the club after getting a promotion.
