Hang tight, everyone; Mallory Swanson might have just taken the USWNT a step closer to its record fifth Olympic gold. In the 57th minute, Swanson had acres of space in front of her when she came charging at Brazil’s goalpost. The Canarinha defenders failed to mark the field, leaving both Swanson and Sophia Smith free. And Swanson punished Brazil by striking the ball in the bottom left corner. However, one question is now doing rounds on the web. Fans ask if the USWNT forward just scored a goal from an offside position.
Meanwhile, Mallory Swanson’s goal, her fourth Olympic goal, has boosted USWNT’s morale by plenty. Team USA is charging repeatedly to drive the last nail in Brazil’s coffin. While the Canarinha is rarely seen responding. Anyhow, fans think, the Olympic referees and even its broadcasters have been unfair to Brazil, as offside controversy takes center stage.
The offside allegations are no surprise, considering even Mallory Swanson looked at the lines referee many times to ensure she was onside. Besides, she also took more time than required to drive a shot to the Brazil net. Perhaps she was not quite sure if she was onside. So, now, let’s see what fans have to say about this moment from the gold medal match.

Fans not ready to buy Mallory Swanson’s goal and subsequent antics from broadcasters
In a quite unusual scene, most Olympic broadcasters, including NBC, failed to show the VAR replay of Mallory Swanson’s controversial goal. Apparently, most fans think that broadcasters are deliberately covering up an offside goal.
#uswnt not one single replay by NBC of the clear offsides so,…… yeah. She was way off.

NBC is not alone in taking the blame. This user thinks the Olympic organizers did Brazil badly by snubbing a replay. It remains to be seen if this controversial moment is going to diminish Team USA’s win.
@parisolympicss No VAR of the offside shown on TV?? Seriously? @USWNT was offsides? You show all other replays?? Total BS.
