Last night, English giants Manchester City continued their dominance over Europe. The last season’s treble winners clinched another piece of silverware as they defeated Sevilla to win the UEFA Super Cup. But it seems even after the win, City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, had a few complaints about this year’s Premier League schedule.
He explained the hardships that this team faced after winning the Super Cup. It was quite a close encounter, as they managed to beat last year’s Europa League winner on penalties. However, what was closer was their upcoming schedule, something that Guardiola was upset with.

On Friday, Manchester City played their Super Cup clash against Sevilla. Now, two days later, the Cityzens are in line to play their Premier League fixture. This barely gives the players time to recover from the emphatic final they played. Additionally, the situation also didn’t settle well in Guardiola’s eyes, who couldn’t stop from saying his mind.
Following the Super Cup win, the Spanish manager sat for a post-match press conference. The 52-year-old discussed his side’s recovery after playing such a tiring final. “Tomorrow will be even more happier than today. Recover. Not one drop of alcohol today. Recover as much as possible because, again, from Greece, thank you so much for the Premier League to let us play on Saturday and not on Sunday or Monday, thank you so much,” he said.

The Spaniard made a cheeky taunt while sarcastically expressing his gratitude to the Premier League for keeping such tight schedules. Deep down, his words definitely suggest he isn’t happy with the English division’s calendar for this week. Of course, his words are understandable, given that he has already lost his star player, Kevin De Bryune, due to injury.
Unfortunately, it’s too late to make such an appeal now. Guardiola must push his side to play against Newcastle on Sunday. Nevertheless, let’s dive deeper into how they managed to clinch victory against Sevilla.

A difficult win for Manchester City
Despite being the much stronger side, City seemingly struggled a lot against Sevilla. Eventually, the match began in the Spanish side’s favor, as they took a lead through Youssef En-Nesyri’s header. After ending the first half being 1-0 down, City managed to pull some strings and clinch an equalizer. A decent strike from Cole Palmer was able to hand over the UCL winners a much-needed goal.
Unfortunately, the score remained the same even in extra time, which led both sides to decide the game on pens. All five penalty-takers on Guardiola’s side managed to score the penalty. However, the same couldn’t happen in the case of Los Nervionenses. Nemanja Gudelj’s strike hit the crossbar, thus paving the way for City to win the cup. Indeed, it was quite an enthralling match and a difficult one for Guardiola’s side.
