Manchester City has etched their name in Premier League history. Pep Guardiola’s side is now the first English team to win 4 consecutive league titles! Yet, there is a reluctance to embrace fully the achievements of the record champions. This is because the Sky Blues have been alleged to have broken 115 FFP regulations across the last two decades. The accusations were labeled back in February 2023, and even after 15 months, there is yet to be a single court hearing! As per reports, a verdict could potentially take another year. According to a club legend, the situation is ‘frustrating’ for everyone involved.
On the Sky Sports pre-match segment, pundit and former Manchester City star Micah Richards had his say on the matter. Richards said, “It is frustrating. I mean all the teams, constantly talking about it.” According to the pundit, the topic of the charges is frequently brought up because of how ‘incredible‘ the side is. Hence, the situation needs to be sorted out ASAP as per Richards.
He explained, “All the hard work the players have put in, all the staff, and all the people in the club, all they want to do is to drive this club forward. So to have these charges still over the head. It’s not good for anyone.”

Some accusations against Manchester City include not disclosing accurate financial information, breach of Premier League’s PSR rules, not providing accurate details regarding player and management payments, and more. While Micah Richards wants the issue resolved fast, Manchester City could face a hefty penalty if proven guilty. There is a belief they could face the Lance Armstrong treatment of being stripped of titles won in the said period. However, a former club executive believes the punishment could be much more severe!

It was not long before that Everton and Nottingham Forest were found guilty of breaching the FFP. The two sides were hit with a points deduction and naturally, the focus shifted to Manchester City’s case. Former financial advisor, Stefan Borson, gave his opinion on the potential consequences awaiting the Sky Blues. He said, “There’s no question, if those charges are proven, this will end in at least relegation!. The scale is on a completely different level!”
A relegation would be a significant blow to the club’s financial might. It would be hard to see a superstar like Erling Haaland continue at the club with Real Madrid interested. But one man who won’t be going anywhere is Pep Guardiola. Previously, the Spanish manager had admitted that he would manage the side even in lower divisions.
