It’s been over two and a half years since Lionel Messi and Barcelona parted ways back in the summer of 2021. While everyone expected La Pulga to stay at the club until the end of time, fate had something else in store. However, fans want to see the player unite with his former club, things are not as easy as it seems. In an interview, Barcelona president Joan Laporta denied a possible Lionel Messi return, stating it was even allowed based on the existing guidelines.

While the two parties had the chance to reunite earlier this year, Messi snubbed his old club, making over to the United States to sign with MLS side Inter Miami. Despite the player having nothing on his calendar for the coming months, it seems like a return to Camp Nou is just not on the cards.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta, in an interview with EFE, talked about multiple topics, including a return for Lionel Messi on loan. The Blaugrana boss has no plans of keeping fans in the dark as he quickly quashed the rumors.

Laporta stated, “There are all kinds of news coming out, but I think that is not even allowed by FIFA.”

The Barcelona manager also commented on the team’s failure to sign the player back this summer. “In the end, it didn’t happen, because what he told us was totally logical: that because of the pressure he had been under in Paris, he preferred to go to Inter Miami, because that would give him some stability. A decision that we respect.”
