Seriously, now? When is this deal going to get over the line? It’s been weeks since we heard Mauricio Pochettino will join the USMNT and the rumor mill suggests he is about to join the U.S. national soccer team. Yet, there are some complications to the deal and the waiting game goes on for the US soccer fraternity. While no major complexities about his deal arose, the lack of announcement has confused everyone involved, even the players.

One of their leading players, defender Tim Ream, spoke about the imminent arrival in a press conference before their friendly match against Canada. He detailed his understanding of the information and spoke on behalf of his teammates.

Tim Ream mentioned, “We know as much as everybody else. We were updated a few weeks ago that the search was moving in a positive direction and, at this point, that’s where everybody’s at.” The longer this drags on, the more frustrated the players and fans could get. The USMNT has been yearning for a marquee coach to lead them from the front. And thus, Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival hopes to take them to the promised land.

“We have been told that when something happens we will know, and everybody else, pretty quickly after. So we are updated, but we have not been told anything is final up to this point,” he concluded. Nevertheless, when the former Chelsea manager arrives to take the stead of the USMNT, he could receive an extravagant welcome.

It’s been several weeks since Mauricio Pochettino’s announcement remains on the cards. Hiring a talented coach for the USMNT works well considering the 2026 World Cup will happen in the USA. To recover from their poor performance in the recently concluded Copa America, they need to put on a strong showing. For that, the team needs to get established and set up. And for that, the coach needs to arrive as soon as possible. The experience of Pochettino bodes well for the team as they aim to get back to winning ways with his counter-attacking tactics that bind well with the USMNT players. Players like Christian Pulisic and Gio Reyna can unleash themselves to finally shut down their naysayers. Meanwhile, Tim Ream remains excited about his arrival.

He said, “He’s a high-quality, high-level manager. They were teams that were really well organized and really strong in the attacking sense, so always difficult to play against them. I don’t think I was on the right end of any of the matches that I played against him.”

Oh, and he’s right. He took Tottenham Hotspur to a Champions League final – an achievement that speaks for itself. Hence, with the right manager in place, the USMNT can build to the future. But when will it happen? That’s the only question on everybody’s minds.
