Cristiano Ronaldo can’t keep himself away from the limelight. The Portuguese captain has sparked another debate after leaving the Al Nassr camp for national duty. In an interview, he defended his decision to join the Saudi Pro League by saying he isn’t crazy anymore. However, he went further, drawing comparisons between the Portuguese League and SPL. And the Portuguese journalist isn’t impressed with it.
This statement comes after he compared SPL and MLS. It garnered attention because of the timing of the word with Lionel Messi moving to the US. Now, CR7’s latest interview has met with criticism from his nation.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is ready to take on Slovakia and Luxembourg in the Euro 2024 Qualifiers. The Al Nassr forward made news again for his interview ahead of the Slovakia game. While defending his decision to the Saudi move, Cristiano Ronaldo drew comparisons between SPL and the current status of the Portuguese League.
However, Portuguese journalist Sofia Oliveira refuted the claims with subtle words. Taking a dig at Ronaldo’s ‘circus’ and ‘controversy’ jibe at the Portuguese League, Oliveira raised the question of freedom of expression in Saudi Arabia. She said, “There is less external controversy in Saudi Arabia? Sure, maybe because not a lot of people can express their opinions there….”
But what angered Oliveira? Earlier, the former Real Madrid superstar claimed, “I believe that the Arab League’s better than the Portuguese one. It’s not just the controversy, there’s not so much fuss, and the quality of the names is much better. I hope it can get better. I know it will be difficult. Possibly impossible. It turns out to be a circus what has been happening lately.”
It will be interesting to see how the Liga Portugal fraternity reacts to Ronaldo’s jibe.
Ronaldo feels he isn’t “crazy” anymore
The Al Nassr forward made it clear during the presser that his decision to join the Gulf nation was right. And why not? A host of superstars followed suit during the summer transfer window, as SPL spent around a billion dollars only to be trumped by the Premier League. CR7 is unfazed by the Roshn Saudi League’s criticism. He feels every other thing in soccer gets criticized.
