Wrexham AFC is on a promotional path in National League terrorizing teams that come their way. Standing in 2nd spot behind Notts County, the team is just 2 points behind with 2 matches fewer matches than Notts. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney had brought a new sense of power to the club and they are on a Cinderella run ever since.

When the Hollywood buddies acquired the club, officials were worried the owners will lose the money. However, the insanely vast fanbase Reynolds brought to the club rendered that more popular and well-known than many tier-two teams in the English soccer system.

Yesterday, Wrexham faced Dorking Wanderers, and the match wasn’t even close. The first half ended at 2-0 with a 12th-minute hijinks of Elliot Lee and a 41st-minute stunner from Paul Mullin. The team did exchange goals in 2nd half but at the final whistle, the scoreboard was showing 3-1. Despite their questionable knowledge of soccer, the owners are a great example of how to lead a club.

Ryan Reynolds had a hard time with soccer rules

About 5 months ago, the Owners of Wrexham appeared in a video by GQ. The stars were there to promote the club, but GQ had an amazing plan. They were going to check the soccer IQ of both of these stars. Any video that has Ryan Reynolds in it will automatically be 100% more hilarious. Fans know the Deadpool actor for his witty humor and that’s what he showed in this video.

The video had a quiz format where, in the very first question, Rob asked, “explain offside in 11 words or less.” To this curveball of a question, Ryan replied, “Nobody knows what fu*ing offside is. Nobody! Not even the refs. Go fu* yourselves.” Rob was so stunned he could only say, “that’s about 11 words.

In his defense, the offside rule does confuse a lot of fans. As Ryan puts it, not even refs know what it’s all about. Obviously, that’s an exaggeration, but it has that Ryan Reynolds touch to it.

Learned many lessons after buying Wrexham

In a talk with Forbes last year, Ryan revealed that he learned many things after acquiring the Welsh club. He said that the most important lesson he learned is how unpredictable this sport is, and how strength on paper is just that. The game is played on the ground and it can go either way. His team would prove him right months later as they defeated 2nd-tier team, Coventry.

The promotion that seems to be just above the horizon for the Welsh club will lead them to the next step. Ryan Reynolds has a multi-decade plan ready for Wrexham and it seems the team just wants to speed-run it.

Will they be able to get a promotion with Notts County giving them a shred of challenge? Only time can tell.
