With Marc Andre ter Stegen struggling with a back problem and subsequently missing Barcelona’s last three games, the possibility of signing a new goalkeeper seemed logical. An experienced free agent like De Gea added more to the mix. However, Barca head coach Xavi has unequivocally declared that the club has full confidence in their current goalkeeping options, specifically highlighting the impressive performances of young backup Inaki Pena.

Xavi put an end to the swirling speculations surrounding David De Gea and decided against seeking a replacement. “Signing a replacement for Ter Stegen? NO. We will not do that. We have confidence in our players. Inaki Pena has been playing at a very high level,” declared Xavi.

This resolute stand from Xavi underscores the trust placed in their existing squad. It also delivers a blow to De Gea’s hopes of finding a new home at the Camp Nou and making a return to professional soccer. With Barcelona out of the picture, De Gea’s future remains uncertain. He has been linked with several clubs, who are currently facing a goalkeeping crisis of their own, which includes Newcastle United.
