Is Weston McKennie the unsung hero of USMNT's future under Pochettino's tactical brilliance?

Weston McKennie and Tim Weah are both star players in U.S. soccer. Both are vital to the USMNT. Their friendship has been one of the biggest advantages the team has enjoyed so far. Currently, having Mauricio Pochettino as their coach, Weah thinks that McKennie is essential for Pochettino’s strategy for the team.

Pochettino is known for tactics. He would surely love to have a player who thrives on relentless energy like McKennie. Weston McKennie is just a box-to-box midfielder, bringing uncommon combinations of physical abilities and technical skill into game understanding to that part of the USMNT.

During a recent interview, Weah stated that McKennie was among the most talented players in the world. “Honestly, I think he’s so good at everything; I think he has a tank that no one else has. He runs 24/7. He’s one of the highest jumpers I’ve ever seen.”

“He’s one of those box-to-box players that are just killers, and he’s so important to have on a team,” Weah explained. The contribution of Weston McKennie goes beyond the statistics, even if goals and assists are viewed as crucial to some. This is all about the ability to maintain the shape of the team, make transitions effectively, and ensure a competitive atmosphere against top opponents. Whether it’s tracking back to break up attacks or making late runs into the box, McKennie is everywhere on the field, showing the versatility that makes him stand apart.

Besides that, one part of the game because of which McKennie has many compliments is his free kicks. “He’s scored so many important goals off set pieces,” Weah further explained about his teammate’s ability to get above the other team in crucial moments. For a team like the USMNT, always in very tight matches, such skills are invaluable.
