In a year filled with diss tracks and personal revelations, Shakira has once again taken aim at her ex-partner Gerard Pique. But this time, she seems to be firing shots at his father. The Colombian singer has not held back her punches, using her music to express her feelings toward those who have wronged her. Now, her ex-father-in-law, Joan Pique, has become the target of her sharp lyrics.
Ever since her breakup with Piqué, Shakira has not only severed ties with him but also distanced herself from her former in-laws. While Piqué’s mother played a role in hiding her son’s infidelity from Shakira, it was Piqué’s father who allegedly forced the singer to leave her home in Barcelona. This incident strained their already fragile relationship, leading Shakira to cut off all communication with Joan Piqué.

Shakira’s discography this year has been a mixtape of emotions, displaying her versatility as an artist. From diss tracks aimed at her ex-partner and his girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti to heartfelt songs dedicated to her children, the singer has shown the world various sides of herself. Her latest creation, ‘El Jefe,’ is a collaboration with the American regional Mexican band Fuerza Regida, infused with elements of Mexican music.
The song’s official video has already garnered over 4 million views on YouTube within hours of its release. While ‘El Jefe’ primarily depicts relatable verses about hustling and working hard for an unappreciative boss, it is one specific line that has caught everyone’s attention. In a temporary departure from her usual jabs directed at Piqué, Shakira seemingly takes aim at his father.

Shakira sings, “They say that there is no evil that lasts more than a hundred years. But there is still my ex-father-in-law who does not set foot in a grave...” These biting words suggest that the singer holds lingering resentment towards Joan Piqué. These lyrics are not subtle and it’s clear that Shakira is not holding back her feelings. This just might be the result of the fury created by the eviction notice she received a few months ago.

An eviction notice forced Shakira to leave her house early
Shakira and her two sons in April relocated to Miami after months of careful planning. The move was delayed for months due to her parents’ health concerns. But eventually, she made the decision to leave, albeit sooner than anticipated. Unfortunately, the Latin singer was unexpectedly served with an eviction notice from Gerard Pique’s father, Joan Pique, which prompted her early departure.
In an email sent by Joan Pique, it was stated that Shakira needed to vacate the property by the end of April or face significant compensation charges. As a result, Shakira had no other option but to swiftly prepare for a new life in Miami. Now months later the pop singer seems to have exacted retribution with ‘El jefe’.
