Neymar recently broke Pele’s all-time goal-scorer record for Brazil. Netting 2 goals to overtake Pele’s 77 international goals, a record that hasn’t been broken for 52 years. Nevertheless, criticism always finds a way to seep through for the Brazilian. With countless critics lamenting his career and debating his supposed underachiever status, another columnist has come forward to express her feelings toward the Al Hilal talisman.

Since the day he joined PSG, critics have had a microscopic view of Neymar’s stint in Paris. His injury woes did not help either. The Brazilian journalist criticizes how the world perceives Neymar’s feat and strongly questions supporters over their reverence of the Brazilian.

It seems the timing of  Neymar overtaking Pele’s spot could have been better. The former PSG forward had been out due to injury and misfortune with the Paris higher-ups. Yet to make his Al Hilal debut, some feel the spotlight on him is unjustified.

In an article for UOL, Brazilian Journalist, Milly Lacombe questioned the status Neymar is enjoying saying, ” Pelé is the greatest idol of all the fans, Neymar isn’t the greatest idol even of the clubs he’s played for.”

Lacombe further added, “What have Neymar’s goals done for us and the national team? Not much. And Pelé’s? Everything. Who was Pelé for the national team and the world? A king. And Neymar? Neymar, in truth, can’t even be compared to Zico. Zico did more for the national team than Neymar.”

The journalist’s remarks are not one with the wind. Neymar is not fighting on one front but is also being tagged as an underachiever by many pundits.

The Brazilian is not clutch enough

Renato Mauricio Prado, another Brazilian journalist stated that “Neymar and Pele cannot be written in the same sentence”. He also expressed his views by saying “Both of them are wines from different barrels”. Prado claimed Pele’s goals to be crucial while regarding Neymar’s goals as merely good.

On a talk show, Luis Garcia, Shaka Hislop, and Alejandro Moreno debated who underachieved more, Neymar or Ronaldinho.

While both of them have disappointed fans in some way, it was the Al Hilal player who was a bigger underachiever, as the Brazilian has only won a Champions League and nothing else that makes him worthy, expressed Hislop.
