Saudi side Al Hilal has received a gigantic relief from FIFA, as the international governing body will pay the side $8.2 million in compensation after Neymar Jr suffered an injury last year during international duty. The Brazilian suffered a horrible injury during his clash against Uruguay, which saw him rupture his ACL, putting him out for the rest of the season. While the Saudi Arabian side has not roped in a replacement for the player, the team will cancel his registration for the ongoing season.
There has been no set date for a potential return for the Brazilian. While fans expect the star to return in June before Copa America 2024, the Brazilian medical team does not wish to take any risks with the player and clarified that Neymar could miss the marquee tournament if he fails the required fitness tests before the tournament. Yet, Al Hilal received better news from FIFA amidst his injury troubles.

Brazilian team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar provided an update on Neymar’s status last month during a press conference. With the Brazilian out with a ruptured ligament since October, there have been a lot of concerns surrounding the player’s potential return.
Lasmar commented on the situation last month stating, “It’s too early. There’s no point in skipping steps to recover sooner and taking unnecessary risks. Our expectation is that he will be prepared to return at the start of the 2024 season in Europe, which is August. We need to be patient. Talking about a return before nine months is premature. This is a global concept for knee ligament surgeries recovery.”
The Selecao fans will hope that the Al Hilal star makes a swift recovery to be present with the national team before the team sets for Copa America 2024. Do you think Neymar will recover in time for the tournament? Let us know in the comments below.
