Various sources suggest that the Argentine is strongly considering a move back to his boyhood club. The rumors have caught more pace as his boyhood club is reportedly preparing to call him back home for a ‘trial run’.
Is Lionel Messi on his way back to Rosario?
As of a month ago, David Beckham’s Inter Miami was in a prime position to sign the soccer legend. However, everything has turned upside down in the span of a month. Nobody imagined that Lionel Messi would think of returning to Newell’s Old Boys so soon. But the Argentine has gotten enough time to think about his future after winning the FIFA World Cup.
🚨 Newell's Old Boys will invite Lionel Messi to play in a testimonial game for Maxi Rodríguez on Friday 16th of June at the Estadio Marcelo Bielsa. The occasion is seen by the club as a "test run" ahead of a possible return to Rosario for Messi in the future. @infobae 🇦🇷🔴⚫️ pic.twitter.com/b5zP7mTDge

And the results suggest that a return to Rosario is on the cards. However, nothing is finalized yet. According to Infobae, Messi’s boyhood club will first call him for Maxi Rodriguez’s testimonial on the 16 of June. The soccer club has unofficially termed that meeting as a ‘trial run’. Rodriguez and Messi were teammates for the longest of times.
The two Argentine veterans played the 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cups together for their country. Newell’s Old Boys placed the testimonial date in order to accommodate Messi’s schedule after the French soccer season ends. These rumors have gained traction in the last few weeks.
Former Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero addressed the same topic recently and revealed a shocking fact
Aguero claims that Messi has made up his mind
Just yesterday, Sergio Aguero told UOL, “He is seriously considering the possibility of playing at Newell’s”. However, Maxi Rodriguez later tried to downplay Aguero’s comments. He chuckled and said, “We will see. It is hard to talk about this because then a giant ball of rumours is made. Let’s wait and see what happens, we will not get ahead of the facts”, as per the Mirror.

Besides this, Inter Miami has made every effort possible to attract the World Cup winner. David Beckham was reportedly ever ready to welcome the Argentine to his soccer club in America. However, it seems like Lionel Messi has his eyes fixed elsewhere. Messi’s possible move back to Rosario will definitely not be as controversial as Ronaldo’s shocking move to Saudi Arabia.
