Considering their star power, England’s narrow win against Serbia in the UEFA Euro opener was a tremendous shock for the soccer community. As if the lackluster opening was not enough, the Three Lions’ second game of the tournament has made them a laughingstock. Well, at least, Brentford FC star and France international Neal Maupay is having a hearty laugh at England’s abysmal display 1-1 against Denmark today.

Neal Maupay took to X and shared a clip of a television presenter laughing out loud and captioned his tweet, “It’s coming home,” and added an emoji of the English flag. This was a harsh mockery of the English fans’ slogan, suggesting the potential victory of the Three Lions in any tournament. Since England has struggled over the years to win a major title, the ‘it’s coming home’ motto has turned out to be a meme material among rival fans. However, a rival player directly mocking the English team is a fresh storyline.

For a moment, it looked like England had the game on their court. However, Denmark’s Morten Hjulmund equalized soon with a strike from outside the box. Thereafter, England saw the game slipping away from their forte, while the Danes improved their momentum constantly. Aggravating England’s fall, coach Gareth Southgate is facing flak for benching elite midfielders such as Cole Palmer and Kobbie Mainoo. Anyhow, Neal Maupay’s troll, despite being a new storyline, is not a big surprise. The French international had earlier warned of blasting England for their shortcomings at the European championship.

Neal Maupay guaranteed that he would mock England during the Euros

In an early interview with talkSPORT, Neal Maupay joked that he will share memes to mock England if they lose to France in the European competition. Maupay said this anticipating a headline semi-final clash between England and France at the ongoing Euros. The Brentford star also added that he would mock the Three Lions from the safety of his home to avoid English fans’ wrath. As things turned out, Maupay did not have to wait till the semi-finals to take digs at Southgate’s side. As he rightly feared, many English fans have started to call him out on X, in response to his jibe.
