USMNT captain Christian Pulisic was one of the very few stars who shined at the otherwise disastrous Copa America in July. He did his best while the USMNT embarrassingly crashed out of the tournament without seeing the knockout stage. Hence, it was quite understandable of him to hint that the US team badly needs to shake off its previous demons and rise from the ashes for the World Cup. And the US captain has tasked their potential new coach, Mauricio Pochettino to lead the team in the right direction.

During Saturday’s AC Milan-Parma clash in the Serie A, a reporter asked Pulisic what he thinks about Mauricio Pochettino’s potential arrival to the USMNT camp. “It’s good news. I think it’s time for a change, time for us to take another step and really improve as a team,” said the AC Milan star. Thereafter, the 25-year-old striker detailed how important it is for the USMNT to buckle up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, played on home turf.

“Leading up to this World Cup, we need to find some good results and build some momentum leading up to that moment,” Christian Pulisic added. Pulisic and Co. kick-start a new era from next month. They will play Jesse Marsch’s Canada in Kansas City and also face New Zealand later that month. These matches are indeed chances for the USMNT to analyze what went wrong previously and begin a chapter anew.

Why is there a delay for Mauricio Pochettino to join the USMNT? Expected date explored

Mauricio Pochettino and the US Soccer Federation had reportedly reached an agreement regarding his switch to the USMNT. However, the US team is yet to unveil him as Gregg Berhalter’s successor. This is because negotiations are still underway between the Argentine boss, USSF, and Chelsea. The English Premier League giant has yet to fully pay him the money they owe him. Pochettino has a year and an option to extend for another year, remaining on his Chelsea contract.

Anyhow, the negotiations between the three parties are quite ‘optimistic.’ Besides, the 52-year-old boss is also ‘extremely optimistic’ about taking up the USMNT coaching job. While the USMNT is yet to officially announce Pochettino as its new boss, rumors have it that he could take office before September 07. The USMNT plays its first friendly against Canada on September 07. So the Argentine could indeed join the US camp before September begins. Hence fans can eagerly wait for the USMNT to announce Poch’s signing any day from now.

But once he signs, he is surely not entering a path filled with roses. As Pulisic pointed out, it is a rugged path, where results remain the most important priority.
