“Need to Come Up With Some New Stuff” – USWNT Superstar Alex Morgan Says Teammate Megan Rapinoe Has ‘Best Celebrations’

There have been some iconic celebrations by US women’s soccer players. Brandi Chastain is the first name that comes to mind when we talk about iconic celebrations by US players. Her celebrations during the World Cup of 1999, when she ran, taking off the jersey after scoring a winning penalty in the final, is an inspiration to many to take up soccer as a career. Alex Morgan got the same attention with her iconic celebration during the 2019 World Cup.

The USWNT co-captain scored a winning goal against England in the semifinal of the 2019 World Cup. She celebrated the goal by putting her fingers to her mouth with her pinky out and tilted her head back as if to take a sip of the imaginary beverage. The tea-sip celebrations drew criticism from England fans. However, her teammate Megan Rapinoe defended Morgan over the criticism she received.

Recently, in the wake of World Cup 2023, Morgan urged for a new celebration, claiming Rapinoe has the best celebrations.

Alex Morgan was a guest in a recent episode of the Snacks podcast with Lynn Williams and Sam Mewis. Williams and Mewis talked about NWSL’s third week. Morgan joined the duo, who then discussed the pre-World Cup. The USWNT stars also discussed the tea-sip celebration of Morgan.

Williams asked what would be new celebrations for this year’s tournament. Morgan replied, “We need to come up with some new stuff, okay?” However, the San Diego Wave FC forward is a big fan of the celebrations of Megan Rapinoe. She added, “Pino always has the best celebrations, and everyone else is just like yeah.”

Williams went on to suggest that Morgan should do a boomerang celebration. Morgan wanted to know more about how to do it. Gotham FC forward replied that Morgan will throw an invisible boomerang that would hit all her teammates, who would go down to the ground. Morgan liked the idea of the new celebrations, suggesting she might do it during the World Cup.

In the same podcast, Gotham FC forward was full of praise for the USWNT superstar Alex Morgan. She spoke highly of her and her contributions to women’s soccer in the US. Williams also thinks it’s because of Morgan NWSL is happening. Morgan is responsible for bringing the anti-harassment policy to the NWSL.

Ahead of the World Cup in July and August this year, Morgan is focused on the NWSL. The form in the NWSL will give impetus to the players. Morgan started the tournament by scoring three goals in the first three games for Wave. It will be interesting to see how Morgan performs in the remaining games before the World Cup. She would hope to win her third trophy in a row with USWNT looking in an excellent position.
