David Beckham is one of the most renowned personalities all around the world. The 47-year-old has enjoyed quite a glamorous life, both as a soccer player and celebrity. The former England international is always in the spotlight thanks to his charming personality.

The Beckhams, alongside his wife Victoria, are considered one of the best couples in the celebrity world. Both are blessed with four adorable kids. Indeed, the Beckhams are a global brand with an atrocious fanbase.

Of course, fans are constantly in awe of their idols and frequently attempt to imitate them. However, this one fan of David seems to have gone way too far as he shared a shocking incident.

Fan spent a fortune to become like David Beckham

A local man hailing from Kimberley recently revealed his failed attempts to become a lookalike of David Beckham. The fan named Jack Johnson has warned everyone that his obsession with David nearly got him killed.

“I tried to take my own life, because trying to look like Beckham is a full-time job and is not easy,” he told the Daily Mirror. “Trying to look like Beckham nearly killed me and I don’t want others to make the same mistake.”

In an attempt to become like him, Jack spent over $24,000 on an eyebrow lift, teeth veneers, lip fillers, cheek fillers, Botox in his forehead, and tan injections. He used to get all the procedures every month.

Johnson paid for the surgery using his Disability Living Allowance, by taking out loans and borrowing money from his brother. And now the latter has revealed he is in a $17,000 debt and is struggling to pay his debts. The 21-year-old insists he has learned his lesson and has put an end to all kinds of surgeries and treatments.

He even revealed that he tried to end his life four months ago by taking an overdose of tablets. Fortunately, he was found by his friend and was also taken to the hospital. He was also suffering from body dysmorphia, a mental condition where people spend a lot of time thinking about their body flaws. Johnson even made many visits to his psychiatrist regarding his condition.

The importance of being authentic

The story wasn’t about Jack’s cheap ways to get fame, rather it has been described as a lesson from him for everyone to embrace the beauty they already have. “I’m not speaking out because I want notoriety or fame anymore – I’m genuinely doing this because I’ve come out the other side of it,” he said.

The fan said he used to get free liposuction, Botox, and lip fillers as he became well-known within the clinic. “When I was on This Morning Holly or Phil asked me if I was happy. I told them I was but really I wasn’t – I was in the worst place ever on the inside.”

Jack Johnson also admitted he is responsible for his wrongdoing. “I obviously don’t blame David Beckham, it’s not his fault. I was trying desperately to look like him, and it nearly cost me my life.”

However, now he stopped doing every experiment on his face and is happy with how he is. “I feel like I’m in the best place ever now – and I really don’t want anybody to go through what I have. Nobody should ever aspire to look like celebrities to that extent, and I’m an example of that. You need to just be yourself.”
