Thanks hugely to Lionel Messi, Inter Miami won the Leagues Cup in 2023. The first title in the club’s history paved the way for the Herons to participate in the CONCACAF Champions Cup 2024. Tomorrow against Nashville FC, marks their first match ever in the competition and fans are quite excited. But in a late twist, the Herons supporters will face restrictions on wearing their jerseys. The reason being cited for this strange move is one related to ‘safety’.
Nashville FC uploaded a statement that has caused quite a discussion among the Inter Miami faithful. It reads, “No opposition team jerseys or colors will be allowed in the Supporters Section (Sections 106-110) of GEODIS Park for Thursday’s CONCACAF Champions Cup Match. ” Anyone entering these sections in opposition jerseys faces the risk of possibly being expelled. However, this doesn’t mean that Inter Miami jerseys are prohibited at Geodis Park.

Per the statement, “Opposition jerseys and colors will be allowed in the seated sections (105 and 111) as well as other seated areas of the stadium and the Traditional Fade of Conduct applies in these areas” Hence, it seems the jersey restriction is valid only in the supporters section. Moreover, people moving from the seated area to the supporters section could also face expulsion.
While a seemingly strange move, this makes sense in light of recent incidents. A recent FA Cup encounter between Wolves & West Brom turned bloody. This was because some Wolves fans ended up in the away end. The altercation got physical and the match had to stop. The police had to intervene. Hence, it seems Nashville wants to keep the supporters safe at all costs. Regardless of the restrictions, Inter Miami supporters have much to be excited about, as an elite midfield talent could finally make his debut for the Herons.

There was a lot of fanfare when Inter Miami announced the signing of Federico Redondo on February 24. After all, this was the son of legendary midfielder Fernando Redondo and one who garnered interest from major European powerhouses like Liverpool and Real Madrid. But he hasn’t played a single minute and was not even on the bench for the last 2 games. The reason only came to light recently.
The Argentine international faced a delay in obtaining the required paperwork. Per recent reports, he has received his visa and is ready to feature against Nashville FC. A defensive midfielder in the mold of Sergio Busquets, Redondo could be a staple for the Herons in the decade to come and could you blame the fans for being unbelievably excited?
