What a time it is for Manchester City fans, players, and manager Pep Guardiola! On Saturday night, under the flooding lights in Istanbul, after the final whistle blew, City defeated Inter Milan in a nail-biting 1-0 victory to win the UEFA Champions League. This historic win marked the first time that Manchester City lifted the prestigious Champions League trophy.

This victory was sweeter as they won the treble. After winning the Premier League and FA Cup and now Champions League under their belt, the Sky Blues also succeeded in earning their first-ever treble. It was unforgettable for all Cityzens, but for their right-back, Kyle Walker, it was a night filled with some special emotions and memories.

For almost six years, Walker has been part of this City squad and on Saturday night came the peak of his this run. Following the match, Walker was interviewed by the BT Sports panel, where he opened up about his feeling after winning the title.

“Obviously I’m living the dream,” Walker said. “My mum and dad are in the standing”. He then also talked about the financial struggles he faced growing up. “From where I’ve come from in Sheffield, it’s not easy,” he added. “So, for them to be here, for me to experience the memories with them, because I remember when my mom didn’t have a pound for an ice cream van”.

He concluded by saying, “So for her to be here, experiencing this with me, God bless her. I’m just so thankful”. Walker, who had a rough upbringing highlighted by financial hardships, saw his Champions League success as a testament to his parents’ hard work and sacrifices.

Walker’s journey to success with Manchester City

Kyle Walker’s rise to the height of soccer was not an easy one. Born in Sheffield, he began his career with Sheffield United’s academy. He made his first-team debut in 2008, at the age of 18. Following this, the Englishmen soon established themselves as one of England’s brightest prospects.

Walker since has been an essential member of the City team. His pace and defensive abilities have made him one of the world’s best right-backs at the moment.
