At the start of the season, AC Milan faced several injury issues. Eventually, it led to manager Stefano Pioli entrusting the captain’s armband to Rafael Leao against Verona. The forward did not disappoint, as he scored the winning goal in the 1-0 win. But the Portuguese forward, like his idol, has his sights set on something legendary.
In an interview with Gianluca DiMarzio, he said, “My idol is Cristiano Ronaldo. I can reach his level, but I’m not a selfish player. I can score goals, but if there’s a teammate, he can do it for me. It was a source of pride for me because I’ve been here for a long time. Milan has helped me to be a level player. Even if it won’t be easy to be captain, it’s a joy to play with the Milan shirt.”

Rafael Leao has not made the best of starts to the season, with three goals and four assists in 15 league games. However, he is a very vital player in the formation, played by Stefano Pioli. AC Milan remains aware that he will have to raise his performance levels if he wants to become the permanent captain. Yet, Leao’s future remains intact.

In an earlier interview, at the start of the season, he was asked about the Saudi proposals after the success of the Al Nassr. But Leao made it clear that he has no ambitions currently to go to the Saudi Pro League. The 24-year-old has commented that he prefers to win the Champions League in his career rather than earn over $10 million per year playing in the cash-rich league.
Despite that, the Portuguese forward has not ruled out the possibility at a later stage of his career. Like Totti was to Roma, his priorities remain to achieve success and winning trophies with AC Milan.
