The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is just a couple of months away now. Teams are getting ready for the faceoff and the fans are waiting for the kickoff. USWNT fans especially will be on edge the whole tournament as the team eyes a chance to create history. Stars like Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe will be in the history books as the only three-peating soccer players.

Winning this edition of the tournament will make USWNT the only team in soccer history to three-peat in FIFA World Cup. Even the mighty Brazilian team, back in the day, failed to achieve this coveted feat. However, during the last sets of international friendlies against Ireland, USWNT suffered a significant blow.

Despite all the chaos, Megan Rapinoe has played her part in motivating the squad for the upcoming challenge. Looking at the sheer dominance of the USWNT, many experts believe that they have an easy way to victory, however, soccer has always been unpredictable.

Megan Rapinoe motivates USWNT

About a couple of weeks back, Megan Rapinoe appeared in a talk with her USWNT teammates, Sam Mewis and Lynn Williams. In the podcast, they talked about the upcoming tournament in Australia and New Zealand and the environment of USWNT while preparing for it.

Talking about her views on the World Cup, Rapinoe said, “World Cups are just so cool like this one is gonna be so much better than the last one, which was so much better than the last one. It’s in a really cool place, so I think that’s exciting like, for everyone. The team is looking great. These little kids are just good.

From her voice, it is clear that one of the greatest goal scorers of the USWNT is ready to bring the third straight World Cup trophy back home. Although she knows that the team is fairly young and has a different game style than the team Rapinoe won two World Cups with. The USWNT’s bid to secure the world cup will prove to be harder with the absence of a star player.

A Swanson-less offense

During the first friendly match against Ireland, USWNT faced their worst nightmare. Mallory Swanson, the backbone of the team’s offense got injured. It later turned out to be torn Patella tendon. She has since had surgery, the star is definitely out from the world cup as she will need 6-7 months of rehabilitation.
