“Most Funny SH*T We Got Into” – Megan Rapinoe Pays Her Tribute to Outgoing Coach ‘Sammy Boy’ After 9 Years Together at OL Reign

Megan Rapinoe paid her tribute to the assistant coach. Sam Laity was with the team for 9 years. The USWNT star posted an Instagram story talking about the coach. Sam also served as the interim coach of OL Reign in 2021 and went 4-2 in his 6-game run. It is indeed a loss that OL Reign will have a hard time filling. 9 years is a long time, you know the team and the players know you.

While everyone would love it if he continued his path with the club, he had a better opportunity somewhere, and eventually you gotta move on. Megan Rapinoe’s heartfelt message was full of happiness and pride she has for her former assistant coach.

The 2023 session of NWSL will begin in March, giving ample time for the new team to get introduced to the former OL Reign assistant coach and their Head Coach. There is no official news from OL about his replacement as they still mention Sam Laity on their site.

Houston Dash made the news official on their official website and Twitter. Following the news, OL Reign Forward Megan Rapinoe posted a story on Instagram congratulating him for becoming head coach. She shared a post from the club with a heartfelt message for the new Head Coach of Houston Dash.

In her Instagram story, Megan Rapinoe wrote, “There are just no words for this. Mostly bc I wouldn’t be able to say 99.9% of the most funny s*it we got into over the years… I couldn’t be happier for you and this next journey. Thank you for every laugh, every moment… you poured your heart and soul into the club and into all of us. You will always be my Head of HR. I love you so much. Giving you the biggest side thumb in the world right now, mate… cannot wait for the sideline banter… good luck, Sammy Boy.“

The team will miss Sam for a long time, but Megan’s post reflects the respect players had for their coach. The same respect he will get at the Houston Dash dugout, but this time as a Head Coach.

Clarkson’s investigation paved the way for Laity

Houston Dash suspended the former Dash coach James Clarkson in April 2022 after NSWL began investigating him for workplace misconduct. Last week the league released a full investigation report and Houston announced that they will not be reinstating his contract.

Sam is expected to join the team in early January. Laity is bringing an enormous experience to the team which will help him make an impact this season. However, it may turn out, we will be here to see a great man at work doing what he does best.
