It’s been a period of mourning for the families of people from Morocco who died in the recent earthquake in the nation. Among many notable persons, Cristiano Ronaldo has shown support and lent a helping hand by making his luxury hotel a refuge for the people. His sister Katia Aveiro has also offered her support to the people of Morocco and her friends who are in the country. She also revealed shockingly how they narrowly escaped this disaster.

Morocco was shaken by an earthquake on Friday, September 8th. The earthquake had its epicenter 70 kilometers away from Marrakesh. It measured 6.8 on the Richter scale, killing 800 people and leaving 600 injured after it struck. The Portuguese icon’s sibling took to social media to offer her support and prayers to the people of Morocco.

Posting a story on her Instagram account, Katia posted a statement to her 1.3 million followers. The statement, translated from Portuguese read: “My prayers today are with Morocco and my friends who are there…”.

“And to think that a week ago today we were there (God gives us deliverances that we never imagine). May God give strength to all Moroccans.” “More than 800 dead already,” she added.

Ronaldo’s family was in Morocco on vacation just a week earlier at the end of August. This was just before Katia and her family flew to Madeira for her daughter Valentina’s christening. Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother Dolores Aveiro also posted a picture of herself on vacation in Marrakesh on Instagram as well.

Ronaldo’s mother’s post read: “A wonderful vacation with family and friends”. The post was dated 31st August, just before the family left for Portugal.

This was certainly a narrow escape for Ronaldo’s family. They avoided being caught in the disaster that struck Morocco by just a week. So, it’s largely apparent as to why they are thankful that they left the country before the devastating mishap struck.
