But we cannot underestimate the influence of Ronaldo off the pitch. The famous Siuuu celebration took over the globe since its existence. Although many fans are divided, USWNT soccer legend Megan Rapinoe loves them both. 

After winning the World Cup, she acknowledged Lionel Messi as the finest soccer player ever after posting an Instagram story. She captioned, ‘Debate over.’ But showing her support for Ronaldo, she had previously enacted his world-famous celebration ‘Siuuu’ in a training video. To sum up, she loves both of them!

Megan Rapinoe pulls off Cristiano Ronaldo’s celebration

In the video, Rapinoe scored a header in training and celebrated by doing Ronaldo’s ‘Siuuu.’ Although she said ‘Woah,’ instead of ‘Siuuu,’ fans understood the essence of the whole celebration. Hence, it became a moment to remember as Rapinoe pledged allegiance to Ronaldo. Therefore, this tribute happened months before Rapinoe congratulated Messi. 

 

After winning the Copa America trophy, fans knew the Messi and Ronaldo debate arrived at its final stages. Winning the World Cup would cement their legacy amongst the pantheon of greats. But only one could do it. Lionel sat on the crown as Rapinoe gave him a fitting tribute.

The origins of Siuuu!

It’s been ten years since Ronaldo hit the world-renowned celebration. In a pre-season friendly against Chelsea, Real Madrid’s Ronaldo scored a goal and did an epic celebration. Since then, he adopted it and became part and parcel of Ronaldo’s games. According to the Sun, he mentioned, “When we would win, everyone would say ‘siiiii’ and so I started to say it. I don’t know why, it was natural.”

After he scored the goal, he started to do it as the fans responded to him. From there, he followed his trademark celebration, which became a trend. Even tennis players mimicked it during their celebrations.

He stated, “Since that, I started to do it more often and I feel like the supporters and the fans see it and they’re like ‘Cristiano, siiiiiiuuuu’. People love it, and Ronaldo continues to do it. Since then, people simulated it across the globe as Megan Rapinoe did.
